Point of interest:
Pattaya: This
lively ocean-side city hosts many large, sophisticated
international resorts¡ªa different image of what this small
fishing village was fifty years ago. Initially Pattaya served as
a resting place for King Narai during his military campaign in
pushing Burmese forces out of Thailand in the 17th century, yet
by the 1950s American GIs spread the word about its beautiful
beaches that soon its expectation as a resort getaway followed.
Three million visitors visit this rambunctious destination every
year to enjoy its energetic clubs, fine restaurants, affordable
souvenir shops, and excellent water sports. |
Thai
Massage: A
must-do for visitors in Thailand, this unique massage utilizes
chiropractic manipulation and acupressure to stretch, stroke and
knead tense muscles. Unlike other massage styles, a Thai massage
actively requires participation to stretch limbs and unblock
energy pathways. It fuses ancient knowledge of Ayurvedic, Thai
and Chinese medicine into one. Some benefits of a Thai massage
include: releasing stress, increasing energy, flexibility and
range of motion, assist in skeletal alignment and body posture,
improve blood circulation, strengthen the internal organs and
improve neurological function. |
Coral
Island: Phuket's south coast is so well known for its coral
reef that it is often referred to simply as Coral Island. Diving season
is year-round on this side of the world. In addition to its splendid
reefs the island has two long stretches of white sandy beaches on one
side and serene bays on the other. Coral Island is outstanding, and
comes closer than most other islands to fulfill that seductive mental
image we all imagine of a remote, perfect, untouched island escape where
the sand is pure and white, the water translucent, the sunsets
religiously inspiring and the crowds far far away. |
Tiffany Cabaret Show (VIP): The
Tiffany Show is reputedly the first ¡®transvestite¡¯ cabaret show
in South East Asia. With over 28 years of stage experience, the
Tiffany Show is theatrical and extravagant. Millions of
international visitors have experienced their spectacular
performances and are captivated by the gorgeous and talented
Tiffany performers. Always copied but never replicated, this
show established the standard for Thailand¡¯s cabaret industry. |
World
Mineral and Gem Museum: This gallery showcases
exquisite gems mined in Thailand as well as imported
semi-precious stones. Sapphires, rubies, garnets, turquoise, and
zircons are abundantly grown and mined in the country. After
visiting the studio watch skillful artisans design and create
high quality jewelry and purchase it for a fraction of the cost. |
Grand Palace: A fusion of Thai and western design,
this palace is a sacred royal ground. Once you pass the palace
gates, you will see the Pavilion for Holy Water, where priests
swore loyalty to the royal family and purified themselves with
water from Thailand¡¯s four main rivers. Nearby is the Chakri
Maha Prasad designed by western architects as a royal residence
for Rama IV. This Thai-Victorian building contains the throne
room, reception hall, ashes of royal family members and a
collection of Thai weaponry. This large compound has numerous
buildings still actively used for royal and state occasions. |
Wat
Phra Kaeo: An
architectural lexicon of the country, Wat Phra Kaeo is a
magnificent temple that houses the venerable Emerald Buddha.
This revered sculpture sits on the Palace grounds in a central
shrine known as a bot. The title of the Emerald Buddha is
attributed to its dark green hue carved out of jasper. The
Emerald Buddha is the most holy and powerful statue and is a
treasured symbol of the Thai people. |
Damnoen
Floating Market: Vendors wearing traditional lampshade
hats and blue shirts bustle up and down narrow canals on their
small sampan boats to sell a range of food and produce,
primarily fruits and vegetables to locals living along the
canals. |
Samphran
Elephant Ground & Zoo: Elephants play a large role in
Thailand's traditional culture. These gentle giants have worked
alongside men since the early history of Siam, and this reserve
will introduce visitors their agility and strength through an
amusing talent show. Ride one to glimpse the life of a mahout!
The 22 acre (9 hectare) garden complex also showcases crocodiles
including the world's largest white crocodile. |
Chao
Phraya River: The main thoroughfare to Bangkok, this river
was the essential means for transportation and livelihood. Known as the
¡°River of Kings,¡± the Chao Phraya River cuts through to the heart of
Bangkok and splinters to many other smaller canals throughout the area.
In its glory days this canal system rivaled Venice.
Sunset Cruise: The finest sunset
cruise experience on the Chao Phraya River, the Manohra is a 50 year-old
classically refurbished rice barge that will sail you down the River of
Kings as you enjoy the beautiful sunset over the Bangkok skyline. |
Night
Market: A night-owler's delight, this concentrated area is
full of hawkers and food stalls that sell produce and delicious steamed,
grilled and fried Thai treats. The Night Market is where locals meet,
greet, and eat. Even if you are not interested in eating at this late
hour, there are hundreds of shopping vendors selling everything
imaginable. Take this opportunity to soak up your last remaining hours
in Bangkok before your next day departure. |
